The Captain’s House

VIEW THE ROOMS
An 1830s whaling captain’s house built in the New England Federal Style, The Captain’s House fronts Court Street. The building contains ten guest rooms and several common areas for the use of all guests: a roof deck, for sunbathing and extravagant views of the harbor and town; a second-floor deck overlooking the in-ground whirlpool; and one of the three guest lounges on the property. This area has a gas fireplace in the living room area, which is furnished in early American antiques, Shaker style chairs and reproductions. And, yes, the Indian head penny bellows really works. A trestle table surrounded by Windsor chairs fills the other end of the large room where a painted hutch houses a salt glazed pottery collection, board games and books. A chess/checker tabletop hugs the wall beneath an array of amazing oil paintings. Room 1 is a superior king- or twin-bedded room. Room 2, Room 4, Room 5, Room 6, Room 7, and Room 10 are all standard queen-bedded rooms accessed from the interior; Room 3 is also a standard queen-bedded room, but its entrance in the courtyard opens directly to the in-ground whirlpool. Room 8 is a deluxe queen-bedded room, and Room 9, a deluxe king-bedded room, both accessed from the interior.
